Pamlico District Union Meets
It was a beautiful sunny morning at Silver Hill Christian Church as we pulled up for the second of three Pamlico district meetings for 2026. The first was held at Reelsboro Christian Church in March and the last will be at Bethany Christian Church on September 26. Silver Hill graciously agreed to hold the meeting giving everyone a chance to meet their new minister Rev. Ray Sledge.
The officers were greeted by the board chair, Evelyn Paul, as we took our places and started the meeting. President Christy Beach and President Gail Slade welcomed everyone as they arrived. We had representatives present from six churches of the ten in the district and seven clergy plus the Regional Elder of Hookerton District in attendance as well.
The business meeting included news from the region as well as the district. Christy Beach reported on the virtual Regional Assembly May 31 that she and Gail Slade attended at Camp Caroline. Camp Caroline was one of the “hubs” where people could join together in person for the virtual meeting. Some big news from the assembly is that our very own Jennie Adams was elected to serve as a member of the Commission on Ministry. Congratulations Jennie!
Further business included a vote to donate $1,000.00 to Camp Caroline. Also, it was reported that Pamlico District's treasurer Rev. Dr. Laura Wood is moving and has resigned her position as treasurer. A new treasurer will be announced soon.
Carol Nobles, Regional Elder of the Hookerton District, explained the importance of having regional elders and the need for Pamlico District to have a regional elder. The elders serve as connections between the local congregations and the region. They also help to pastor our ministers. Regional Elders have been charged with developing training programs for our local elders. Elder Nobles called for members of the assembled to consider volunteering to train and serve as a regional elder.
It was mentioned that Bishop Melvin is doing well and working partial duty. Bishop Melvin is calling for a financial audit of the last 3-5 years to be performed by an external source. This is to aid the region in managing its resources.
Once the business meeting was concluded, communion was shared and an offering received. Then came time for our program that was led by Rev. Jamie Haddock. It was a very nice update on the summer season at Camp Caroline. Then, Silver Hill provided a wonderful fellowship meal and all enjoyed themselves very much.
As I was driving away, I was glad the district had these times to connect. It makes each church better and stronger.
