Ms. Clara Jean Ensley was a well known fixture at Bethany; she had attended
for many many years. She always had a kind expression on her face, and she
always sat on the same pew and did not miss many Sundays let me tell you. It
was comforting to see her there in her spot.
I knew Ms. Clara before I came to Bethany. She and I worked at the same plant
in Aurora, PCS Phosphate. I knew her even then to be a kind and fair person.
Once I started attending Bethany, I got to see a more personal side to Ms.
Clara. She was a loving sister to Ms. Evelyn, and they could often be seen
together. She was also a doting Aunt to Randy, Stephany, John and Christine and
Great Aunt to Meredith. I admired her support of her family, and how they
would eat dinner together every Sunday after church.
Clara was kind, as I said, but she also had her own opinion regardless of yours
and was not afraid to share it. I liked that part of her too. We don’t all have to
think alike to love one another.
Ms. Clara was secretary to the Board here at Bethany for many years. I don’t
even know how many. After Ms . Clara retired from that church duty, she
stayed active doing other things for the church such as serving on the
personnel committee. More recently though, she was missing Sundays. She
was having some health concerns. Still when I learned of her passing on July
3rd . I was shocked. I had not expected it. She and her steadiness will be missed
here at Bethany.
